Myrer er en familie af sociale insekter med fler\u00e5rige samfund. De spiller en vigtig rolle i \u00f8kosystemet og kan v\u00e6re betydelige skadedyrsbek\u00e6mpere. <\/p>\n

I visse tilf\u00e6lde kan de ogs\u00e5 v\u00e6re generende for mennesker, selv om generne som regel er beskedne. Myrerne h\u00f8rer til stilkhvepsene (Apocrita) i de \u00e5revingedes<\/a> orden (Hymenoptera). Der kendes mere end 14.000 arter, flest i troperne og ca. 50 i Danmark.<\/p>\n

Videnskabeligt navn <\/strong>Formicidae (familie<\/a>) <\/p>\n

St\u00f8rrelsen varierer fra f\u00e5 millimeter op til flere centimeter. Myrer kendes p\u00e5 deres stilk, et sn\u00e6vert omr\u00e5de af 1-2 led mellem bryst og bagkrop. Stilken har 1-2 sm\u00e5 knuder eller sk\u00e6lformede udv\u00e6kster. <\/p>\n

Myrerne har lange, kn\u00e6b\u00f8jede f\u00f8lehorn. Munden er bidende med kraftige kindbakker (mandibler). Hos mange arter har hunmyrerne bagest en brod med en giftkirtel. I Danmark g\u00e6lder det bl.a. stikmyrerne (Myrmica spp.) og fr\u00f8myrerne (Tetramorium spp.). <\/p>\n

De fleste danske myrer, heriblandt sl\u00e6gterne Lasius, Formica og Camponotus, mangler dog brodden og forsvarer sig i stedet ved at bide og spr\u00f8jte gift i s\u00e5ret.<\/p>\n

Myresamfund<\/h2>\n

Hos myrer er der hanner, frugtbare hunner, dronninger, og sterile hunner, arbejdere. Nogle myrearter har samfund med flere dronninger, fx lille skovmyre (Formica polyctena). Hos andre, fx de i Danmark almindelige r\u00f8d skovmyre (F. rufa), er der kun \u00e9n dronning. Hanner og dronninger har hos de fleste arter to par lange vinger. <\/p>\n

Efter sv\u00e6rmning og parring river dronningerne vingerne af, og de er derfor uvingede i st\u00f8rstedelen af deres levetid. Dronninger og arbejdere dannes fra befrugtede \u00e6g, og hanner som hos andre \u00e5revingede fra ubefrugtede \u00e6g. <\/p>\n

Arbejdere er mindre end dronninger, og de mangler vinger. Arbejderne er hos nogle arter delt i flere kaster med hver deres funktioner. Nogle arter har s\u00e5ledes en speciel krigerkaste, soldater, som har kraftige hoveder og store kindbakker (mandibler).<\/p>\n
